John Muir PTA Board Members 2018-2019

No PTA experience is required, nor do you need to know everything about John Muir. Most of us learned about the PTA and John Muir by attending a PTA meeting or helping at an event.

President  (elected Officer)

Alex Allred, president@themuirpta.org

Represents the Muir PTA to the press and at all events. Creates and brings to life the Muir PTA’s Mission Statement, through their leadership.

VICE presidents (elected officers)

Lul Ali and Jessica Urban, vicepresident@themuirpta.org

Supports President and oversees committees. May be called upon at any time to temporarily assume the place of president.

Secretaries (Elected officers)

Jason Hahn & Amy Stelljes, secretary@themuirpta.org

Keeps accurate records of the proceedings of all PTA meetings. Works with president and board to create meeting agendas.

Treasurer (Elected officer)

Rachel VanDeMark, treasurer@themuirpta.org

Manages budget, provides financial report at monthly meetings, writes checks, make deposits, understands the current state of fundraising activities.

Community Committee

Welcomes families and fosters an inclusive atmosphere within the school community.

Fundraising Committee

Organizes the events and activities needed to reach our fundraising goal, including the Walkathon and Silent Auction.

Events Committee

Chair: Erica Gordon

Coordinates non-fundraising events: Staff Appreciation Week, Holiday Potluck, School Dance and PTA meetings.

Communications Committee

Chair: Kirsten & Daimon Eklund, socialmedia@themuirpta.org

Outreaches to school families about PTA and school events. Outreaches to the community to raise awareness of our school. Create a monthly newsletter and oversees social media.

Race and Social Justice Committee

Chair: OPEN

Ensures close coordination between this independent committee and the PTA.

Student Support Coordinator

Barb Trosper

Works with school staff and Race & Social Justice Committee to provide support for students, including the Free Books case in the lobby, shoes and clothes, and food over the weekend. 

Membership & Volunteer committee

Registers members, keeps membership list and Recruits volunteers for PTA events.Coordinators (not required to attend monthly PTA meetings)

Translation Coordinator

Ensures interpreters attend PTA’s community meetings and that all PTA materials are translated for major languages.

School Supplies Coordinator

Purchases school supplies for all students, coordinates with staff for supply lists and delivery.

ADVOCACY COORDINATOR

Coordinate advocation for and provide public policy information regarding issues that affect our families and students.

Playground Coordinator

Spend remaining playground funds.

GOVERNANCE COORDINATOR

Update and maintain standing rules.
